heart_earthOur highest priority is keeping our bodies healthy, and our environment clean and Life promoting. In caring for this earth by moving through this Life in an environmentally responsible manner, we ensure a future with very little disease, and a planet that can sustain Life without depleting our natural resources. Everything is already in place, as intended by the original creators, and we just need to slow down and really take a look around at how we care for our surroundings on this planet. Each of us have a profound impact on the natural world, and we must remember to walk softly and respectfully. I love this planet, and will do all in my power that I can to protect her and encourage awareness.

I ran across this very interesting article over at Organic Consumers Association, written by Ronnie Cummins and Will Allen. Please take a few moments to read, and follow the link provided at the bottom of this message to read more, and visit Organic Consumers Association to learn about ways to promote a beautiful and healthy planet Earth. We are each of us equally responsible as stewards on this planet. We do not deserve such beauty and wonders if we take no heed of the preventable damage being done to Mother Earth on a large scale.

“Climate Catastrophe: Surviving the 21st Century” written by Ronnie Cummins and Will Allen

Climate Stabilization Requires a Cultural and Political Revolution

The climate, energy, and political catastrophe we are facing is mind-boggling and frightening. Yet there is still time to save ourselves, to move beyond psychological denial, despair, or false optimism. There is still hope if we are willing to confront the hydra-headed monsters that block our path, and move ahead with a decisive plan of action. The inspirational message we need to deliver is that we’re not just talking about drastically reducing fossil fuel use and greenhouse gas (GHG) pollution, but rebuilding society, creating in effect a New Woman and a New Man for the 21st Century. What we are witnessing are the early stages of a mass grassroots consciousness-raising and taking back of power from out-of-control corporations, banks, corporate-controlled media, and politicians. This cultural and political revolution will empower us to to carry out a deep and profound retrofitting of industry, government, education, health care, housing, neighborhoods, transportation, food and farming systems, as well as our diets and lifestyles.

The scale of human and physical resources needed to turn our current suicide economy into a green economy is daunting, but absolutely necessary and achievable. The only viable roadmap for survival-an 80-90% reduction in fossil fuel use and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050-means we must force a drastic reduction in military spending (current wars and military spending are costing us almost one trillion dollars a year). We must tax the rich and the greenhouse gas polluters, and bring our out-of-control politicians, banks, Federal Reserve System, and corporations to heel.

The good news, as Van Jones and others have pointed out, is that this 21st Century green economy will not only stabilize the climate, but enable us to retrain and reemploy the U.S. workforce, including low-income youth and 16-25 million unemployed workers, as building retrofitters, solar and wind installers, recyclers, organic gardeners, farmers, nutritionists, holistic health care providers, and other green economy workers.

On January 20th the Senate is scheduled to vote on an amendment that would dismantle the Clean Air Act as a tool for tackling global warming. Urge your senators to oppose the Murkowski amendment, and remind your senators that we depend on the Clean Air Act to protect our health and environment.

The Clean Air Act has effectively regulated some of the most dangerous pollutants for the past 40 years. This amendment would put public health at risk and jeopardize long-overdue action to hold the biggest polluters accountable, reduce America’s oil dependence and jump-start a vibrant clean energy economy.

The Supreme Court has ruled that the Clean Air Act is a tool for tackling the pollution that causes global warming, and President Obama has begun acting — with clean car standards and clean-up requirements for power plants and factories — to protect our health and our climate.

A vote for the Murkowski amendment is a step backward for public health, for protecting our planet, and for our children’s future. It would put our communities at risk, undermine the new clean energy economy and overrule sound scientific decisions.

Instead of standing in the way of progress, Congress should move this year to enact the energy and climate legislation the country needs to build a clean energy economy, create jobs and protect the environment.

Please visit NRDC’s Action Fund today, for more information on how you can do your part to prevent this disasterous attempt to weaken the Clean Air Act. Time is running out, and we need to act Now!

Tell your senators to vote NO on Murkowski’s Dirty Air Act!

Note – This Action is for US Residents only! Do not act if you do not have a US Address.

How is this possible? Most educated humans are well aware of the changing climates around the planet, as things warm up. Yet are we equiped to address this problem? There must be actions we can take, as good stewards of this planet which is our Life Giver. Perhaps this is something which is now completely out of our control. Perhaps not.

If we do not at least give it our best shot, those of us with the compassion and foresight to care, then we will never know until it is too late. Please consider joining myself, along with Jeff Corwin, in taking action to defend and protect the creatures on this planet during these transitions into a new global climate.

Please visit Jeff Corwin and Defenders of Wildlife and help us with this struggle to help wildlife threatened by global warming. We all carry the responibilities for good stewardship on this planet, whether we believe so or not. This is our home, and there is a reason for every season, and every creature on this planet.

Jeff Corwin and Defenders of Wildlife I worry deeply about what kind of world awaits my two young daughters if we fail to address this threat.

One of the wonderful aspects of living in Oregon, is the bountiful wildlife, including the variety of fish. Salmon, steelhead and trout are abundant because of the devoted stewardship throughout this lovely green state. We live close to several rivers and fishing hot spots, so encountering happy fishermen is almost a daily occurance during fishing season. On a lucky day we have seen some healthy specimens provide a bounty of delicious meals for those skilled enough to land one of these beauties.

The thought of losing this precious resource is too sad to contemplate. Yet the danger is only too real. Because of climate change, some streams and rivers in Oregon’s Columbia and Snake River Basin may soon become too warm for salmon, steelhead and trout species to survive. This will create a major imbalance in nature with catastrophic results. Shouldn’t Oregon’s governor be doing more to help salmon and other species that are threatened by global warming?

It appears that the governors of Oregon, Washington, Montana, California, Arizona, New Mexico and Utah and Premiers across the West (who are formal partners of the Western Climate Initiative) have released a draft plan to reduce global warming pollution and address the impacts of climate change. Although the draft plan presents an ambitious strategy to reduce the causes of climate change, it truly falls short in protecting wildlife in Oregon that is already being affected by global warming and climate change. Climate change is one of the greatest threats to imperiled wildlife in Oregon. Please take just a few moments out of your day right now to help provide a voice for animals that have none.

Mama Penquins and ChickMy experiences as a mother, and compassionate human being sharing this Earth with so many wondrous creatures, has served to give me a greater perspective of all it entails to be a parent in a world full of unexpected events and moments of crisis. I feel quite strongly the bond we all share in these struggles, whether it be with my fellow humans or those beings of a different nature. We are all part of the same web, all things being connected, and therefor we carry equal shares in responsibility of helping to keep the great Balance.

As Mother’s Day approaches, penguin moms and families are facing a meltdown. You can help support our work to save these beloved birds — and their families — by adopting a penguin today.

Penguins may sing and dance in the movies, but — in the real world — times are tough. Rising temperatures are destroying vital penguin habitat and depriving them of crucial food sources, such as the shrimp-like krill. Many penguins can’t find enough food to feed their chicks.

Already, penguin populations have decreased by nearly 80 percent in some areas.

Adopt a penguin, a penguin family, or a Penguin Mom & Chick for your favorite “Moms” this Mother’s Day. It’s a great gift and you’ll be helping to save these precious creatures at the same time!

With your Penguin Mom & Chick gift adoption, those special ‘moms’ in your life will receive a soft and cuddly 11″ Tall, Penguin Mom & Chick Plushes, a framed personalized Certificate of Adoption and penguin photo, a penguin fact sheet, chock full of information about these feathered friends, and a Kids Wildlife Activity Book.

Canadian CoastlineI believe that global warming is a natural state of affair. The earth is always changing, and evolving, and throughout history we can see how many ancient species did not evolve and adapt as well as others. While it is certain man is causing this evolution of change in global proportions by depleting the planets defenses against such a rapid occurance, this change is ultimately innevitable, and a part of the natural balance. I found an article which relates directly to the results of natures evolution.

Nature and the Atlantic coast: ‘We are losing land to water’

The effects of global warming are devouring the coastline of New Brunswick and threatening its delicate ecosystems, natural beauty and native heritage.

Rising sea levels are already swamping plants natives use to make medicine and in religious ceremonies on the Elsipogtog First Nation. And at the Irving Eco-Centre in nearby Bouctouche, there is fear that the 12-kilometre stretch of sand dunes that date to the Ice Age and attract thousands of visitors each summer will eventually be washed away. Already, the tourism attraction’s boardwalk has been moved inland.

“You can delay things a little bit, but you can’t completely stop them from happening,” Kelly Honeyman, a naturalist at the Irving Eco-centre and the Irving Nature Park in Saint John, said. “I hate to be a pessimist, but even if you put in large rocks and pilings to preserve the dunes, like they are doing in the Carolinas, you are usually only safe for five to seven years.

“Water is almost lapping up against our dunes right now.”

Environment Canada predicts that the sea level along the Northumberland Strait will rise by nearly four feet by the year 2050. If that happens, the extraordinarily beautiful dunes would be destroyed and rare plants that are native to the area, such as the Gulf of St. Lawrence aster and seaside pinweed, would be wiped out.

Scientists and researchers from J.D. Irving, Limited, have been working with other groups and agencies to help preserve the aster, a threatened species, since 2004. In addition, the company has helped preserve a population of endangered piping plovers, shorebirds which use the dunes for nesting.

Dr. Liette Vasseur, a professor at Laurentian University, told researchers and academics at a conference in Ottawa last week that many of the things New Brunswickers hold dear and rely on will be lost unless people change their behaviour to curtail and adapt to climate change.

A former instructor at the Université de Moncton, Vasseur conducted studies on the effects of global warming and climate change on coastal communities in Atlantic Canada, including Bouctouche and Elsipogtog. She said her recent assessment of the First Nation shows that traditional sites for harvesting sweetgrass and other natural medicinal plants are already being threatened by erosion and flooding.

Josephine Augustine, an herbal healer who practices traditional medicine at Elsipogtog, said Tuesday that she is having more and more difficulty finding the plants she picks and uses to make remedies for allergies, arthritis, headaches, psoriasis and ulcers, among other ailments.

“It is getting and harder,” Augustine said from her office in the health centre at the First Nation, which is near Rexton. “We are losing land to water, and we are losing medicines here.

“People need to be educated about the environment, and they have to let Mother Nature take its course. We have to let people know the ramifications of what they are doing, make them understand that these plants have a purpose.”

A teacher in Moncton from 2001 to 2004, Vasseur said areas like Bouctouche will be hurt economically unless people adapt to environmental conditions such as the rising sea level. She said they need to build farther inland, and they need to leave natural barriers to coastal erosion, including trees and shrubs, in place.

“People like to have a nice, manicured lawn running all the way down to the water, but when they remove all the trees they increase the vulnerability to the impact of a storm. All in all, we need to reduce our footprint on the environment, and everybody can play a role in that.

“I’m optimistic that people could be very good at adapting to these changes if they got together, but they have to first understand what is causing the changes.”

Honeyman, the naturalist, has spent countless hours walking the boardwalk at the Irving Eco-centre. Tuesday he lamented the threat to one of his favourite places.

“Once you get 200 meters past our interpretive centre, you have a wonderful feeling of solitude and are buffeted by beautiful breezes off the Northumberland Strait. It is really a special spot.”

Global warming is pushing polar bears to the brink of extinction. If we don’t do something right now, they could disappear forever.

Please help save America’s polar bears! Urge the U.S. government to protect them under the federal Endangered Species Act.

For more than 30 years, the Endangered Species Act has prevented the extinction of animals like bald eagles, grizzly bears, and manatees. Now our polar bears need the Act’s protection, and it’s up to us to ensure that they get it.

Already, more than 61,000 Defenders supporters have sent messages urging the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to protect polar bears under the Endangered Species Act. But an industry front group has launched a last-minute campaign opposing efforts to protect polar bears, and we need your help to beat them!

We only have until this Monday (April 9th) to make our case for Endangered Species Act protections for polar bears. Please send your message right now and urge the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to give polar bears the protection they need.

Tomorrow, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, an authoritative U.N. network of 2,000 scientists and more than 100 governments, is expected to release its widely anticipated report detailing the effects of global warming.

It’s not a pretty picture: rising temperatures are melting sea ice. Without sea ice, polar bears must resort to more and more desperate means as they struggle to survive.

Some have drowned. Others have starved to death. And some have even resorted to cannibalism — a behavior unseen among America’s polar bears until recently.

Birth and survival rates have plummeted in the last 15 years, and bears are moving inland where they are more likely to come in conflict with humans.

Unless we take action now to save them, polar bears may only exist in zoos by the end of the century. Please send your message right now!
