Our friends in the Brown Bear family need our help! Alaska’s McNeil River State Sanctuary is home to the largest congregation of Brown Bears in the World. For more than 20 years hunting restrictions have protected these amazing animals. These restrictions are about to expire.

The McNeil bears are easy targets for hunters, as they have become accustomed to humans and tolerate their close presence. While this makes them an invaluable viewing resource, it leaves them vulnerable to danger from hunters.

The bears travel freely between Katmai National Park and Preserve, the McNeil State Game Sanctuary and Refuge, and the Kamishak Special Use Area lands. To safeguard the Katmai and the McNeil River bears, continued closure of the state’s Kamishak Special Use Area lands to hunting is absolutely necessary.

“Help protect these beloved bears from new hunting in areas adjacent to their home. Take action now!”
